Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
This privacy policy describes how Digly ("the app", "we") handles information when you use the app.
What data is collected
Digly collects the following data that you provide yourself or that is generated through use of the app:
- GPS coordinates for individual finds
- GPS track log (continuous route data) during active detecting sessions
- Photos of finds taken with the camera or selected from your photo library
- Text notes and descriptions you enter
- Personal details you voluntarily enter in the profile field (name, address, phone, email) — used solely for auto-filling the find report PDF
How data is stored
By default, all data is stored exclusively on your device and never leaves it unless you initiate sharing yourself.
- Find data, track logs and photos are stored in the app's local database and documents folder
- Profile data is stored in the device's local settings and deleted automatically when the app is uninstalled
- During an active session, route data is stored temporarily for crash recovery and deleted automatically when the session ends normally
- PDF exports are generated locally and shared only if you choose to share them
- CSV and ZIP backups are generated locally and shared only if you choose to export them
Group Dig Pro
Digly Pro subscribers can use Group Dig to search together with other participants in real time. When you participate in a Group Dig session:
- Your chosen nickname, colour, and live GPS location are shared with other participants in the same session via Apple's CloudKit public database
- Finds you log during the session are visible to all participants
- Session data is identified by a 6-letter join code and is not linked to your Apple ID or any personal account
- Location sharing is active only while the Group Dig session is in progress and stops automatically when the session ends
- Session data (locations, finds, participant nicknames) is stored in Apple's CloudKit public database and may remain there for a period after the session ends before being cleaned up
- A summary of completed sessions is saved locally on your device for your own reference
- Do not use your real name or other identifying information as your Group Dig nickname if you wish to remain anonymous
iCloud Sync Pro
Digly Pro subscribers can optionally enable iCloud Sync. When enabled:
- Your finds, sessions and photos are stored in your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit service
- Data is synced across your devices that are signed in to the same Apple ID
- iCloud data is governed by Apple's privacy policy and stored in your private iCloud database — Digly has no access to this data outside your devices
- iCloud Sync can be disabled at any time in Settings — data will continue to be stored locally on your device
- If your Digly Pro subscription ends, iCloud Sync is deactivated. Your data remains in iCloud and will be accessible again if you resubscribe
Third-party services
The app fetches map tiles and weather data from the following open services when you have an internet connection:
When fetching weather data, your GPS position is sent to Open-Meteo to retrieve local conditions. RevenueCat processes subscription transactions on behalf of Digly — no personal identifying information beyond a random anonymous user ID is shared. No name or email is sent to any of these services.
Camera and photos
The app requests access to the camera and photo library. This access is used solely to take and store photos of finds. Photos are stored locally on your device and are not shared with any third party.
Location
The app requests access to your device's location for two purposes:
- Find logging: Your position is used to pin individual finds with GPS coordinates. This requires location access only while the app is active in the foreground.
- Active detecting session: During an active session, your route is tracked continuously, including when the phone is locked or the app runs in the background. This is necessary to record a complete track log of the searched area. Background tracking is only active while a session is in progress and stops automatically when you end the session.
During an active Group Dig session, your location is additionally shared with other participants in real time as described under Group Dig above.
Location data is stored locally on your device and is not sent to any third party, except for weather retrieval as described under Third-party services, and live location sharing during active Group Dig sessions.
Your rights
You have full control over your data. You can:
- Delete individual finds or entire sessions directly in the app
- Delete finds you have logged during a Group Dig session — deleted finds are removed for all participants in the session
- Export all your data as CSV or ZIP backup at any time
- Disable iCloud Sync at any time in Settings
- Delete all local data, including profile information, by uninstalling the app
